When Penis Pain or Injury Needs Medical Attention
Warning signs that should not be dismissed as a normal consequence of size or sex.
Sudden severe pain, a popping injury, rapid swelling, bruising, deformity, inability to urinate, persistent erection or major change in shape can require urgent assessment.
Urgent symptoms
Seek urgent care after a traumatic bend or impact with severe pain, swelling, bruising, deformity or immediate loss of erection.
Persistent symptoms
Arrange medical evaluation for recurring pain, sores, discharge, urinary symptoms, new curvature, a palpable plaque or erectile changes.
Do not mask symptoms
Avoid numbing products or continuing activity through pain.
Prepare for the appointment
Note when symptoms began, any injury, associated urinary or skin symptoms, medication use and whether the change is new.
