Nominal Width Explained
How to read the millimetre width printed on many condom packages and use it as a comparison tool.
Nominal width is the flat width of an unrolled condom, usually stated in millimetres. It is not the same as penis diameter or circumference.
What the number means
A condom laid flat has two layers. Nominal width is the width across that flat tube. It is mainly useful for comparing models consistently.
Why labels are confusing
Terms such as regular, large, XL and snug are marketing categories and vary by manufacturer. The printed millimetre measurement is more objective.
Use measurement as a starting point
Manufacturer charts can help narrow choices, but elasticity, shape, thickness and material affect actual feel.
Signs to reassess
Persistent painful pressure, difficulty unrolling, rolling back, frequent slipping or a loose reservoir of material may indicate a different size or shape is needed.
